Cosmetic Dentistry |
| |
A good smile involves in it more than just healthy teeth and gums. It is a blend
of symmetry, color, shape and lines that create a balanced harmonious smile. The
various attributes of a smile can be favorably altered for a complete change in
the smile. Smile designing deals with the remodeling of the teeth and supporting
structures so as to give a complete new look to the patient.
The treatment involves one or a combination of procedures mentioned below.
Microabrasion
Microabrasion is the method of removing white spots on teeth and superficial enamel
stains. This method removes micro layers of enamel to eliminate minor defects and
spots.
Whitening
A desirable and effective method of eliminating unattractive dark color stains from
the tooth surface. Does not involve altering the shape and size of the tooth. |

Depigmentation
Some times the gums appear brownish/blackish due to excess melanin pigmentation.
In such cases the superficial layer of the gums, which contains the pigments is
removed so as to make them look like normal colored gums.

Cosmetic Gum Recontouring
A "Gummy Smile", where too much of gums are seen when smiling, can be recontoured/
repositioned for a wider, friendlier and a more open smile by the use of cosmetic
gum recontouring.

Dental Jewellery
Teeth have not escaped current fashion trends either. To get that different look
there are a lot of options now available for fashion lovers. Thin metal or crystal
adornments can be bonded onto the tooth. These can be removed and replaced at will and do not involve cutting of tooth structure. Dental tattoos are a reality in some parts
of the world wherein a thin colorful veneer with desired inscriptions or pictures
is temporarily or permanently bonded onto the tooth. |

Braces treatment |
| |
Orthodontic Treatments
Misplaced teeth or an “improper bite” can not only detract from people’s smiles;
but may also lead to tooth decay, gum disease and eventual early tooth loss. For
these, among other reasons everyone should have an orthodontic check-up at least
once, the ideal age for which would be 7 years, though age is not a bar for treatment
with braces.
Types of Braces
With the latest cutting-edge Orthodontic technology today; young patients, teenagers,
as well as adults can feel good about how they look with braces.
| |
Standard Braces - Fully-programmed Metal Braces are now much smaller than
they used to be. |
| |
| |
Clear Braces - Even less noticeable are Esthetic Tooth-Colored Braces. |
| |
| |
Invisible Braces - In some instances, braces can also be placed on the inside
surfaces of teeth, so they are not seen at all. |
| |
| |
Gold Braces / Colored Braces - For those that actually want to be noticed,
braces now come in a variety of fun options such as Gold Braces if you want to make
a style statement; or with accessories in every imaginable color, to suit your mood. |
| |
| |
Wild Braces – Youngsters actually look forward to orthodontic treatment if
their braces come in some really cool shapes and designs – star, soccer ball, heart,
flower etc. |

Children’s Dentistry |
| |
The emphasis in pediatric practice is laid on early detection and treatment of problems
affecting children, interception for irregularities observed during the growth and
alignment of teeth and also prevention of dental decay.
Preventive Dentistry
Sealants are resins or plastic materials which are usually applied on to
the chewing surfaces of the back teeth i.e. molars and premolars. These materials
flow into the natural grooves and pits, and seal them, thus protecting these susceptible
areas from decay.
Professional fluoride applications at regular intervals helps strengthen
tooth enamel against cavities. |
| |
Treatment of dental decay
Decay can be caused due to a multitude of reasons such as improper maintenance,
tooth position, diet habits etc. Once decayed the tooth can be treated using a suitable
filling material to replace the lost portion of the tooth. If the tooth has extensive
damage, a root canal treatment and/or a crown may be advised. Sometimes if the tooth
is not salvageable an extraction may be advised. |
| |
Space Maintenance
These are devices used to maintain the space of a prematurely lost or extracted
primary tooth until its permanent tooth is ready for eruption in its place. |

Injuries to teeth
Injuries or trauma to teeth, mouth and face of infants and children occur frequently
and should not be ignored even in the absence of pain or bleeding. Early observation
and treatment of such injuries determines the success of treatment rendered to a
great extent. |
Special Needs of Special Children
Special children are very susceptible to dental decay, trauma and gum disease.
Prevention of these problems is possible, if the parents and the dentist can work
as a team. |
